Dust to dust

It was a memento mori , the dusty word,
We learnt in someone’s effort to learn

How to be dust ,in church monument
Bowing respect before its marble dust ,

How to stay fit in skyless entombment,
Held up for a dust to dust comparison.

As the dust of cow hoofs returns home
Our basil leaves may turn dust in mouth.

(Reference is to George Herbert’s poem Church monuments )
